The first day of the #VineyardGlobalFamily conference was epic. In addition to seeing a ton of some of my favorite people in the world, I got to finally meet a ton of people that I’ve only known via Facebook or Twitter or even this here blog.

I started the day out helping and hanging with the Multiply Vineyard team because, well, evangelism, discipleship, and church planting are where my heart is at! The booth looks amazing and you should definitely stop by and say “hi.”

So after having what can only be described as a “family reunion,” my wife and I… dropped our kids off at their respective classrooms! Woohoo! Freedom! We’re so glad that the kids have age appropriate opportunities! 😉

#VineyardGlobalFamilyThe night started off with global worship music, including a choir. Yes. Yes. Yes. The music was fantastic and, once again, we in the Vineyard theologically understand our “times of worship” as sacramental encounters with God’s presence. It was incredibly rich.

Then our good and ever wonderful National Director, Phil Strout, introduced the evenings speakers: John and Eleanor Mumford.

Eleanor Mumford. Just… Eleanor Mumford.

The talk was somewhat of an overview of where the Vineyard comes from and where the Vineyard is. Yet it was also a passionate call for us to really consider where the Vineyard must and should go.

It. Was. Brilliant.

Pick up the tape, cd, mp3, or even the 8-track if it becomes available. As my buddy Michael Houle mentioned, this would be great “Vineyard 101” stuff.

Eleanor basically talked about a number of the Vineyard distinctives and also pointed out some of the remarkably “daft” (i.e., stupid) things that some people think or say. Like… chill out on whether or not people sing Hillsong or Bethel songs… geez. And that we should be distinct for something, not simply in order to be distinct. Oh… and saying we’re “cutting edge” is quite arrogant (but it is cutting edge to be on twitter, ha ha!).

The ministry time was classic Vineyard and I know a number of people were extremely blessed.

Eleanor Mumford. Just… Eleanor Mumford.

I really enjoyed yesterday. It had a certain quality about it that I can only describe with these words: I am home. The Vineyard movement isn’t perfect and certainly has its share of theological challenges ahead of us, but it’s my family and I love my family!

What was your favorite part of the day?

  • What stood out to you?
  • How would you describe the vibe?
  • What was your favorite part of the evening?

PS: If you aren’t hip to what’s happening tonight, please be advised that everyone that is cool and wants revival and really loves Jesus will be wearing Hawaiian shirts. Just sayin’. #VineyardGlobalFamilyAloha
