In rejecting intimacy with God, the human community continues in a state of sin, broken relationships and dying persons. Thus the fragmented human small group will reflect a shallow form of community, immersed in addictive and abusive behavior and continuing in a struggle for control, identity, intimacy and meaning. Humanity tries to approach one another, but the approach is stifled in avoidance because God is not present to define, empower and complete the face-to-face meeting.” (Biblical Foundations for Small Group Ministry: An Integrative Approach)
