If last week you had told me that I’d be finding a book on the Sacraments by a Pentecostal scholar, I would have probably laughed and thought you were crazy. Those two subjects are mutually exclusive, right? Wrong. I just received (thanks to my  wife!) Daniel Tomberlin’s Pentecostal Sacraments: Encountering God at the Alter and I’m interested in reading how a Pentecostal approaches this subject.

I’m interested in seeing if Tomberlin moves from a Memorialist view to something along the lines of the Reformed Spiritual Presence view regarding the Lord’s Supper. I’ve long wondered why more Pentecostals and Charismatics do not see the robust pneumatology that is provided in such an understanding. It would seem to build upon their emphasis on the experience of the Holy Spirit.

At any rate, I have a couple books in front of this one, but I’ll soon be reading it…
